Conversations

There are some people who momentarily make space for themselves in our lives. I’m not talking about temporary people who one parts ways with. But the ones who never made a promise, to begin with. They aren’t our friends or family, maybe just acquaintances. We don’t talk enough about them. How they shape our lives. How sometimes things they say hit the notch at the right time. And we never credit them, they don’t even seek that. To maintain the sanctity of this acquaintance-ness, we often find them outside our virtual worlds where the possibility to reach them again is less. They restore our faith in believing that the good is still there. Perhaps we know nothing about their lives and they know nothing about ours, given the limited time we’re together it doesn’t need to be explained. I’m not romanticizing the vibe, the nature of that bond just doesn’t need it. It is enticing to think that we find them in a cafe on a hill station drinking coffee while reading our favorite book, but usually, we find them in our regular places. Holding a conversation that has a long-lasting impression in a short time is an art, but when you find them it just flows. I don’t think it's important to remember what one talked about than remembering how one felt at that moment. Relaxed is my word. You should choose yours. I’ve found them in the busiest sidewalks of CP amongst a large group I was with or sitting in an E Rickshaw for just over 15 minutes or at a friend’s wedding or even at an Open Mic. With someone, it was just a conversation about the campus, with others about Tea, life in general, and even Politics (ironically). These acquaintances have contributed enough in a little time to my life that I vividly count them as my memories. I think of them as a comfort shield when I look back. A comfort which I wasn’t expecting but I got. A comfort of a conversation. How powerful it can be!
